Understanding Disability is a face-to-face training module comprising 5 units:
- What is disability? (60 mins)
- Reflecting on disability (30 mins)
- Hidden disabilities (60 mins)
- Disability, cultures and languages (60 mins)
- Deaf communication (60 mins)
Ideally, a group would cover the whole module. Each unit stands alone and can be worked through in short sessions or on one training day.
At the end of the module, a group will be able to:- Define Disability
- Further understand that not all disabilities are obvious
- Identify barriers to inclusion and participation experienced by Deaf and disabled children and young people (0-25 years)
- Appreciate the extra complexities of different cultures and languages for Deaf and disabled children and young people (0-25 years)
- Make simple changes and reasonable adjustments to everyday practice
The module is for staff and volunteers who have not undertaken the e-learning resource on this foundational part of the programme, as it draws on the same case studies.
